bitpedant is operated by Original Engineering, a Nevada limited liability company.

The short version

The bitpedant macOS application is local-only. It does not phone home. It does not have user accounts. It does not require an internet connection to function. All audit logs stay on your device, in your home folder.

The bitpedant app — what stays on your Mac

When you run bitpedant, it reads CoreAudio properties from your default output device and writes a local log of state changes to:

~/Library/Application Support/BitPedant/log.jsonl

That file never leaves your computer. We do not transmit, collect, or have any way to access it. You can open, inspect, or delete it at any time.

Settings (such as the pinned-device preference) are stored in macOS UserDefaults under the bitpedant bundle ID and are also local to your device.

The bitpedant app — what we don't collect

• No telemetry, analytics, or crash reporting
• No user identifiers, device identifiers, or hardware fingerprinting
• No track, artist, or playback metadata
• No license keys, accounts, or sign-in

The bitpedant.com website

The website is hosted by Firebase Hosting (Google). When you visit, Firebase automatically logs basic technical data — your IP address, the page requested, the user-agent string, and the timestamp — for the operational purposes of running a web server (security, abuse prevention, performance). We do not analyze or aggregate this data.

The website does not use cookies. The website does not run any analytics service (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no others).

Third-party services on the website

• Firebase Hosting by Google — serves the static pages and the download. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Google Fonts — loads the typefaces (Abel, Source Serif Pro) used on this site. Google may log the IP addresses of font requests. Google Privacy Policy

Downloads

When you download the bitpedant disk image, your browser fetches a static file from Firebase Hosting. We receive no information about the download beyond the standard server log described above.

Email

If you email legal@original.engineering or another Original Engineering address, we will see your email address and message contents. We use Google Workspace for email; Google's privacy policy applies. We retain emails as long as needed to address your inquiry.

Cookies

The bitpedant.com website does not set any cookies of its own.

Children

bitpedant is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, UK, California, or any other jurisdiction with data protection rights, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because the bitpedant app does not collect personal data and the website does not run analytics or set cookies, the practical scope is limited to email correspondence you have sent us. Email us and we will respond.

Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use of the site or the app means you accept any changes.
